I always thought of the cosmology to be more of a 'wheel'.
zwartekraai Featured By Owner Jan 12, 2015
the void itself was the domain of Sithis right?

Can you imagine a deep space explorer would think of this? Passing though a region of stellar nebula, not expecting much more than half formed stars and dust, suddenly finding this huge construct.

Very nice. Reminds me of the Thor movie.
Reevke Featured By Owner Nov 5, 2014
Pretty good!  I think the actual cosmology is far stranger than this one, this one made sense and isn't mind-bending.

What did you use to make this?
samus14zj Featured By Owner Aug 13, 2014
I think I remember reading something about anu and padomay. I have all the elder scrolls now so I can read up on as much as I can find in the in-game books.

This kinda reminds me of science and space where the planets were actually named after the gods like Jupiter, Neptune, and Venus. BTW what a Great cosmology of the elder scrolls.

This is really interesting.
mar16cris Featured By Owner Aug 1, 2014  Hobbyist General Artist
it sounds logical, in fact, it also open the idea to think what would happen if the people of Nirn discovered magnuscentrism, like someone said here, if oblivion is basically outer space, then by that extends i could say that even the Dwemer could have discovered space flight (?)

what is padomay and anu?
Brotherhood-Paladin Featured By Owner Jul 28, 2014
Anu and Padomay are the two deities that are attributed to creating much of the Elder Scrolls universe. They are opposites with Padomay representing chaos and change while Anu is order and stasis. They supposedly fought each other and with their spilt blood both the Aedra and Daedra were created with the Aedra being formed from Anu's and Padomay's mixed blood and the Daedra were formed from solely Padomay's blood. Now this is Aldmeri legend so it may not have actually occurred. Aldmeri legend also says that Anu supposedly created his own soul so he could understand himself and reflect on his actions, he was then known as Anui-el. Padomay then created his own soul Sithis, to represent all that Anui-el was limited to. Anui-el then saw the world he and Padomay created and birthed his own soul like Anu before him becoming Auri-el or Akatosh as he is better known. With time, Aurbis (the universe) gained limitations and formed natures. This allowed the Et'Ada (the previously mentioned Aedra and Daedra) to take names and forms. Sithis then supposedly birthed another soul as a response to this forming Lorkhan. Sithis is said to have birthed Lorkhan in order to destroy the universe however this is unlikely and is only truly advocated by the Dark Brotherhood.

i think i remember reading something about that in the in-game books, then i noticed when npcs say "blessings of anu upon you".

Very nice job ^^ i was looking for a good picture of the Elder Scrolls Cosmology since very long time ^^
You have to be an "adoring fan" of the Elder Scrolls (just like me) to do this amazing stuff ^^

Wait a minute... Secunda does not orbit Nirn, it orbits Masser
Koloszrodos Featured By Owner Jul 31, 2014  Hobbyist Traditional Artist
Well with how their orbits are shown here, from the surface of Nirn it would still look like Secunda orbited Masser. And anyway even though this is some magical parallel universe bullshit, if we assume similar laws of physics, Nirn, Masser and Secunda all orbit the shared center of mass of their system, and not actually eachother.
Vurumai Featured By Owner Nov 25, 2014
Actually, it is expressly established in canon that Secunda is perceived to orbit Masser directly, which is observed by their constant proximity to one another (one doesn't rise without the other, as would occasionally happen if they orbited independently) and also that they each occlude the other periodically. Sometimes Secunda is in front, sometimes Masser. Despite how wonky the Elder Scrolls universe is, and that it effectively just throws a good deal of astrophysics bodily screaming out the window, it is perfectly possible to have, even in our normal universe, a body orbiting a body orbiting a third body in turn. Luna orbits Terra, which in turn orbits the sun.

It could be argued that they all orbit the common center of mass of the solar system very near the core of the sun, but by that same argument, the entire solar system could be said to be orbiting the core of the galaxy; however they are not independent orbits. The Masser-Secunda set moves together as a single item around Nirn, just as Terra-Luna orbit together as a set around Sol. How this is possible without all kinds of gravitational tides ripping all three bodies apart is basically a matter of "it's fantasy, and that's the corpse of a dead god up there because it's magic."

...Fun facts, Masser and Secunda are the two halves of the dismembered Lorkhan. When he lost his war against Auri-El (akatosh), the eight divines held council to decide what should be done. Lorkhan had intertwined his being with that of Nirn, so one could not destroy one without destroying the other. The divines, for various reasons, did not want to destroy Nirn, not least of which they had all been rendered nearly powerless due to how much power they each sunk into it's creation; it'd be unlikely they could survive without the binding force of Nirn either. So, rather than even try to kill him, they sundered his body in half, and set it in the skies above Nirn as a reminder. His heart, the seat of his power, was further ripped out of him, bound to an arrow, and fired into the sea by Auri-El. Masser and Secunda together likewise represent the duality of creation and destruction, order and chaos, that Lorkhan represented. Thematically, it wouldn't make sense for the two entities NOT to orbit one another, as they circle Nirn together.
Koloszrodos Featured By Owner Nov 30, 2014  Hobbyist Traditional Artist
Now I understand what it says in canon... But honestly the realities of worlds such as these, especially such low tech worlds, means that in-universe sources aren't 100% trustworthy.
Take everything in-universe that is universe-establishing in a fantasy past-tech setting with a grain of salt, just like trust everything in a sci-fi future-tech setting because they definitely already know.
