This is exactly how I imagined the cosmology!  Perfect rendering!  Magnus intrigues me.  In hindsight, seeing this, it makes perfect sense that Magnus is the sun.  But originally I wasn't sure exactly what he was... He's described loosely as a god, yet not entirely as he has no real influence on Nirn other then he refused to be apart of creating man and mer and taking part in Mundus as the others did.  (As also described the gods sacrificed parts of themselves to create man, mer, and life on Nirn as a whole.  Thus accepting that in some way they take on limitation.  Magnus having refused this, never was limited and thus magic has no limits.)  Now given that tidbit of lore; I don't really know how I imagined Magnus, I didn't find  a TON of info on him in the in-game books.  But the few scraps I did find label him amongst the Aedra, but due to the definitions of Daedra and Aedra, he doesn't truly fit in, nor does he seem to have any care at all for Mundus, not entirely anyway.

This actually cleared up a lot when I was researching the lore. So I'd expect you'd get this a lot, but thank you very much for that.

I need a second opinion on these letters. Are they in the Oblivion alphabet?

Yes, but it's upside down.

www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Daedric…

And it reads; Turd-odor fu**ball

:P

(the red letter seems to be an X, but upside down compared to the other letters).

That's exactly what I thought, but I never took the time to read what it said. I just knew it looked like daedric. I could tell they were upside down from looking at the O. Thank you for translating, and confirming it. They used the upside down letters in a web comic called Homestuck.

Talos wasn't originally a god. He was a man turned into a god, because of his valor. He doesn't have his own realm, or planet.
I looked into it, when I became a Stormcloak.

Thanks. Yeah, I knew he wasn't originally a god but was wondering if he had some kind of domain of his own. I'm not the most well-versed in the lore, but I just assumed that nobody on Mundus knew for certain, due to his late addition (and then subtraction, haha) to the pantheon, but that he could potentially. Though if the lore categorically states that he doesn't have anywhere... it seems a little unfair!

As far as I know it has never really been confirmed whether Talos is a god or not, it might just be mortal superstition. Also, if Talos did in fact become a god, he is actually by definition not a Aedra, but a Daedra, because Aedra refers only to the god-like beings that sacrificed themselves to create Mundus (and Nirn). The name Aedra derives from the old Aldmeric language and translate to "our ancestors", as they played a key role in the creation of Mundus and the Ehlnofey, and therefor also men and mer.

Daedra are frequently referred to as "demons" by mortals, but this label is incorrect. Daedra simply refers to all god-like beings that are not Aedra, or rather all god-like beings that did not partake in the creation of Nirn (Unlike the Aedra, the Daedra might actually be infinite in numbers).

Regardless of if he is a god, or of being an Aedra or Daedra, that doesn't mean he has to have his own celestial body in Mundus, does it? It may be a more peculiar matter given he's an ascendant and not an original, same as the Tribunal, and Rahjin, if you consider them to also be mortals who ascended, or just powerful mortals. Or perhaps in Rahjin's case just such a good thief who got his hands on some pretty artifacts, and did some incredible stunts, that people made stories about him to make him seem like a god.

Anyway, great job on this! I've seen this many times before and came back to it for reference on occasion, but now as I have an account here I decided to post a comment. Tempting to use it as a wallpaper indeed.

In Elder Scrolls IV, you need three items to open the portal to Mankar Paradise (a pocket daedric dimension). Those items are: blood of the daedra, blood of the aedra, and a great welkynd stone.

To get the blood of the daedra, you need to deliver one of the daedric artifacts, since the artifacts have the blood of the daedra that made them (azura's star, mehrunes razor, mace of molag bal, etc).

To get the blood of the aedra, you would need an artifact of a aedra, which first represents a problem, since there are no known aedric artifacts.
But then they remember talos, which was a human turned into aedra, and you are tasked to recover his old armor. And the armor works just fine to open the portal.

I think that's enough evidence to prove talos is indeed a full fledged aedra.

Yeah, I know. It is unfair, but I'm positive he's a god because, if you pray at his statue, you get a blessing, and it cures disease. I'm not really sure why he doesn't have a planet/realm. I just know that he doesn't.

So I guess he would be some kind of lower Daedra; not of high enough stature to warrant his own domain. Perhaps, due to his dragonborn status, he would reside with Akatosh?

The statue blessing effect always sold it for me too. I have a feeling that in-universe, though, it doesn't work for any old mortal that prays there, since you'd think that would seal the deal of his divinity for most. I like to think that you only receive it because you're dragonborn.

That makes a lot of sense. I'm guessing he would be in Akatosh's realm, and yes praying at his statue only works for Dragonborn. It's because he gives a fortify shouts enchantment. Nobody else can use that except for Ulfric, The Greybeards, and Dragonborns. Even if it works for somebody else, they wouldn't know it works ,because they can't use the enchantment.

I always thought of the cosmology to be more of a 'wheel'.
Reply
:iconokiir:
okiir Featured By Owner Edited Feb 23, 2015  Hobbyist Digital Artist
It is, if you imagine the universe on a 2D plane. The center of the wheel is Nirn and Mundus, the spokes are the connections between Mundus and Aetherius (seen as stars on the night sky), the empty space between the spokes is the Void of Oblivion (where the planes of Oblivion is located), and the wheel itself is Aetherius.

the void itself was the domain of Sithis right?

Yes, but "the Void" must not be confused with the Void of Oblivion.
The Void of Oblivion is encompassed by Aetherius, but THE Void refers to the eternal space outside of Aetherius, the infinite darkness in which Anu, Padomay and Aetherius exist within.
(There is also speculation that Sithis and Padomay might be the same thing).

humm I don't think so. I believe Padomay was describe not as a conscious entity but more as a form of living energy and emotion.

Yes, Yggdrasil, where nine worlds (planes of existence) is connected by the branches/roots of the tree, with Middle Earth in the middle.
I guess there are a few similarities :)
